Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved 4 early break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
