RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack against an underground arms cache in Syria used by the IS group, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.
The location, pinpointed through reconnaissance, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was situated in hills just above Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft employed Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a number of entry passages providing entry to the site... early reports indicate the target was engaged successfully," officials stated.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the strike on Saturday evening and every plane involved made a safe return, the MoD added.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - referred to as Daesh - imposed militant control over parts of both Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This strike shows British leadership, and commitment to operate in unison with our partners, to eradicate any re-emergence of the terrorist group and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the region," Britain's Defence Chief the minister remarked.
British military aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syria to "forestall any attempted comeback" of the group after its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I must thank every member of our armed forces participating in this strike for their professionalism and their courage," the Defence Secretary said. "They were part of a great many British personnel stationed over the festive period. This operation, to take out terrorist threats who pose a risk to our safety, highlights how our armed forces are always on standby, continuously, ensuring Britain's security within its borders and powerful internationally."
During December, the American forces executed what it described as a "major assault" against IS targets in the country, following an ambush killed two US troops and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The United Nations estimates Daesh still has between 5,000 and 7,000 combatants in both countries.
